Fiat began its electric initiatives back in 2013, with the Fiat 500e. The vehicle was actually made by a company called Micro-Vett. Production continued on this version of the 500e until this year, 2020, where Fiat has taken a new in-house approach, recreatin the 500e. In total, between 2013 and 2019 Fiat sold less than 30,000 units:
Year | Sales |
---|---|
2013 | 2,310 |
2014 | 5,132 |
2015 | 6,194 |
2016 | 5,330 |
2017 | 5,380 |
2018 | 2,250 |
2019 | 615 |
For 2020, Fiat has taken the design and manufacturing of the vehicle in house. With that, the design is sleeker, and has much better range than its predecessor.
There are two versions: the 2013-2019 500e, and the new 2020 500e. The new 500e has more than double the range and is built in house by Fiat.
The new Fiat 500e (2020 version) will have a 199 mile range.
The new Fiat 500e (2020) will cost around $35000
While the new version of the 500e is planned for release, it's not expected to arrive on US roads as of yet. Fiat says they're still "evaluating" whether or not to bring it to the US. Vehicles like this will undoubetly help the US have better options for switching to electric. Let's hope they make the right decision, otherwise they could miss the wave!
