Nikola has had a bumpy past couple years with news that it's been falsifying its readiness of its Fuel Cell powered semi-trucks. The company got a lot of steam in 2019 and early 2020 when it came out and announced it was entering the consumer sector with it's Badger concept. The badger looked good in theory, but in practice the company really was no where close to having a working prototype, nonetheless a full scale production line. In 2021 it continues to be unseen whether or not Nikola has a full-blown working semi-truck, however now under new management the prospects are more hopeful for good and real news moving forward. Nikola says it uses Hydrogen Fuel Cell's and Battery technology to power its vehicles. We hope that in the future they delve deeper into the Electric Vehicle market and become a more pure EV play.
No, Nikola got many consumers excited when they announced they were bringing the Nikola Badger to market. However since partnering with GM, getting new leadership, and signing a memorandum of understanding with GM, the company is no longer pursuing the consumer concept vehicle.
Unknown in reality, they touted ~600 mile range, but that's a big hypothetical. Maybe we'll see Nikola attempt the consumer market again in the future.
Nikola's Badger was going to run around $60-90K depending on what options you chose. The Badger has since been cancelled.
At the current moment Nikola has not announced another dive into the BEV consumer market. We'll see if they're able to bring their Semi-truck to the market. If so, should be a good sign for more to come.
