This year is slated for a bunch of amazing new electric cars to hit the road. Outside of this list, there are another 11 electric cars or so that are going into production, but for the sake of discussing what's going to be "hitting the roads" (in the US) in 2022, we wrote this article specifically to cover that question. You'll likely first notice how there are no Tesla's on the list below and that's because the next Tesla slated for release is the Cybertruck, now for 2023. We'll update this list if any major updates come to existing models.
Here are the 11 new electric cars coming out in 2022:
1. Cadillac Lyriq - Beginning March 2022 - $68,000
The Lyriq will hit the streets as Cadillac's first fully electric vehicle. It can go 250 miles on a full charge and has an impressive top speed of 125 mph. The drivetrain is also capable of switching from rear-wheel to all-wheel drive, which should prove helpful in less than ideal road conditions. It has already made an impact on other vehicles. As soon as 2021, you should see some aspects of the Lyriq in Cadillac's high-end SUVs.
2. Toyota bZ4X - Beginning Mid 2022 - $35,000
The bZ4X is a city car that will have a range of 80 miles per charge. This little number can go from naught to 60 in six seconds flat. If you're looking for something with a little more power, the Toyota 8104 should be coming out sometime around 2020. There isn't much information on it yet but, since it is being produced by the same company as the bZ4X, we expect it to have many similarities.
3. Subaru Solterra - Beginning Mid 2022 - $45,000
This all-wheel-drive crossover SUV was designed with electric vehicles and future technologies in mind. It has 400 horsepower and over 300 miles of travel on one full battery charge. It'll hit 60 miles per hour in under six seconds. While it comes with a hefty price tag of $45,000 to start, this car will be available for even less after incentives and rebates are factored in. There's also a chance the Solterra has a range-extender engine, meaning you can drive it without using electricity at all; but that remains unconfirmed as of yet. No word on when this automobile will be coming out--we'll update if we find out more information.
4. Nissan Ariya - Beginning Fall 2022 - $43,000
This hatchback is going to come with an 80 kWh battery pack and should give drivers about 215 miles per charge depending on road conditions and driver technique. There's a good chance this car will also come with Nissan's ProPilot Assist feature, which manages throttle, brake and steering for you to make highway driving easier. It'll go from naught to 60 in about six seconds. Nissan hasn't announced a full release date yet--we'll update if we find out more information.
5. GMC Hummer EV - Beginning Summer 2022 - $99,500
This SUV comes equipped with a battery pack capable of going 210 miles per charge. It can also go from naught to 60 in under six seconds. The downside? It'll cost you $99,500 before incentives and rebates when it hits the market sometime this summer. However, there's always a chance that price could drop if production increases--we'll update again when we find out more information!
6. Hyundai Ioniq 5 - Beginning January 2022 - $43,650
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a fully electric car that will get you a range of 240 miles per charge. It has an impressive top speed of 112 mph and can go from naught to 60 in about seven seconds. Unfortunately, it'll be priced at $43,650 when it comes out in January 2022 with only one battery option available--a 30 kWh model. But there's always a chance the price could drop if production increases--we'll update again when we find out more information!
7. Lucid Air Pure - Sometime in 2022 - $77,400
This sleek luxury sedan can go from naught to 60 in under four seconds. It has an impressive 400 horsepower and will get about 275 miles on a full charge. Unfortunately, Lucid Motors filed for bankruptcy earlier this year so new information is scarce at the moment--but we'll update again when we hear more!
8. Mazda MX-30 - Available Now - $33,470
This car comes with a solid range of 100 miles on a full charge and is capable of going from naught to 60 in 8.7 seconds. It's definitely a reasonable option for the price if you're looking for an eco-friendly vehicle with some power behind it! This affordable electric car can be found at Mazda dealerships today.
9. Ford F-150 Lightning - Beginning Spring 2022 - ~$40,000
Ford has been making some major moves as of late--including turning the F-150 into an all-electric vehicle! It'll have a battery pack capable of going 310 miles on a full charge and can reach speeds of up to 155 mph. It'll also have a four-door cab and a luxurious interior.
10. Fisker Ocean - Beginning November 2022 - $38,000
This super-charged SUV is available for preorder as of the beginning of November and its impressive battery pack can give drivers about 275 miles per charge. It has a top speed of 161 miles per hour, which is nothing to sneeze at! You'll be able to drive from naught to 60 in just under four seconds, too. Fisker hasn't released a lot of solid information about this car yet--we'll update as soon as we find out more!
11. Rivian RS1 - Beginning January 2022 - $69,500
This car has a range of 200 miles on a full charge and is capable of going from naught to 60 in under 4.5 seconds. It can accommodate as many as seven passengers--perfect for those looking for an eco-friendly SUV with lots of power! The downside? It may come with a price tag of $69,500. However, if you're willing to wait until January 2022, it might be worth the investment! We'll update as soon as more information becomes available.
