Sometimes referred to as the 'Model 2,' Tesla's upcoming "less expensive" model is going to be revealed sometime over the next 12-24 months. Over the last several days we've seen a pickup in artist rendered designs coming out, with some of them really getting us excited! The 25K model is expected to be available because of recent performance improvements in battery life and efficiency.
We know that Tesla's Shanghai factory is setting course to finish its R&D center in 2021 to gear up to develop the Model 2. Just this last July, in 2020, Tesla China was looking for design submissions for the Model 2.
The renders above comes from an artist on Behance who goes by KDesign AG. They recently put out the render which shows a almost Mazda 3-esq looking hatchback mixed with some upcoming Roadster DNA. What do you think about this render?
The below renders come from another behance user Dejan Hristov who's created quite a few different designs for the Model 2. He calls them the 'Model C'.
Here are some predictions about the Model 2:
- $25K USD (CNY 160,000)
- single casting (for more efficient manufacturing)
- 34kWh battery
- LFP chemistry
- 175 mile range
- 4 seats, 1 screen, 1 motor (dual motor may be an option [hopefully])
We love all three renders that've recently come out. Each of them offer something different than the others. The top most render shows a very roadster/Mazda 3 looking concept, with track rims, and handles that would be on any other car except a Tesla. The other two renders show more futuristic design elements that add a little bit of cyber punk flair from the upcoming Cyber Truck. You'll notice the door handles on the black model are built into the side of the door frame. As the R&D center approaches completion we'll continue to see more and more renders come out.
